Sue Trainor is a dynamic, engaging and imaginative performer and teaching artist. Her songs and stories are highly interactive, and her programs are not only entertaining, they’re educational. In addition to community concerts for children and families, Trainor also works in preschools, elementary and secondary schools presenting assembly programs and workshops that encourage students to explore songwriting as an effective form of self-expression.
Trainor's newly released second CD for children, called "In Our Own Words," was voted the Best "Children's Music Recording" WAMMIE Award by the Washington Area Music Association. The recording features songs performed in Trainor's school assemblies and several songs that were written in her classroom residencies. Guest musicians on the CD include Hot Soup, Ira Gitlin, Alexander Mitchell, Brook Parkhurst, Steve Wolf, Steve Jones, Jerry Bresee, Road Goad, Kathy and Marv Reitz, Paul Watson and Judy Luis Watson, David Alberding, Bob Clayton, Judy and Dennis Cook, and a children's chorus.
Trainor's first children's CD "Under Tables, Out Back Doors" continues to receive rave reviews. The CD was awarded a 2001 "Platinum Seal" from the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio (www.toyportfolio.com), an independent reviewer of children's toys and media. The CD also received a Parents' Choice "Recommended" award, a Parents Guide 2000 Media Award, and it won the 1999 Wammie Award from the Washington Area Music Associaiton as "Best Album" for kids. In 1999 the Childrens Music Network named Trainor "Best New Artist for Young Children" and ranked the CD in the top 5 reviewed.
In addition to her work with children, Trainor performs concerts for adult audiences, touring nationally as a member of the vocal trio Hot Soup.
"Sue's first album for kids is a highly interactive and humorous set of songs and spoken_word pieces designed to entertain and creatively inspire young listeners aged 4_7. Produced by Marcy Marxer, with a wonderful array of musicians, these selections tickle imaginations and inspire singing and dancing along with Dixieland, polka, old_time, and other tuneful and rhythmic arrangements" (Sandy Byer, "Pass It On," Children's Music Network).
"I have never seen kids drawn to music in such a way before!" (RK in MD). "Uplifting, wonderful themes, fun to listen to, move to and sing" (MB in MI).
